About this study day
This study day is open to any nurse working in an environment that cares for patients following traumatic injury. Attendees may work in the ED or on a trauma ward. The aim of the day is for attendees to improve their knowledge and skills in caring for patients following traumatic injury to the chest/respiratory system.
The sessions will consist of presentation, discussion, case studies and practical sessions, these will cover:
- Basic respiratory anatomy and physiology
- Airway management
- Causes and medical/nursing management of laryngeal fractures, flail chest and pulmonary contusions
- Pneumothorax/Haemothorax and chest drain management
- Arterial blood gas interpretation
- Updates on current evidence based guidance for the diagnosis and management of these conditions
- An opportunity to share best practice and case studies.
