About this study day

The study day will consider the physiological basis of cancer pain and cancer pain syndromes before addressing pharmacotherapy. Morphine myths and misconceptions will be addressed and the need for careful assessment and titration of analgesia discussed. The concept of the therapeutic mosaic will be introduced and the use of non-pharmacological measures such as massage, TENS and adjuvant analgesics explored. The day will also address the management of terminal pain in both malignant and non-malignant disease and the evidence base for those complementary therapies most frequently used by patients with cancer pain.

This study day is particularly suited to staff with an interest in developing their nursing in this area.
