Introducing Phlebotomy

About this study day
This study day is available to anyone wishing to acquire the skill of venepuncture (non NHS included).
Theory and practice in a safe environment combine to provide the practitioner with a complete grounding in phlebotomy / venepuncture.
Please note however that practice is on anatomical arms. Students must be supervised and assessed in practice before carrying out venepuncture on patients and this is the responsibility of the student and employer.
This study will cover:
Basic anatomy and physiology
Identifying suitable veins
Identifying blood bottles and sample requests
Timing of specimens
Access & Equipment
Transportation and storage of specimens
Safety precautions
Complications and their management
Practical
Students will be able to practice safely using an anatomical arm and test their knowledge using case scenarios.
