About this study day
The ILS course has been developed by the Resuscitation Council (UK) to standardise resuscitation training. Its aim is to train healthcare personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, simple airway management and safe defibrillation (manual and/or AED), enabling them to manage patients in cardiac arrest until arrival of a cardiac arrest team/paramedics and to participate as members of that team.
The course is run over one day and consists of lectures and practical stations. A course manual is forwarded two weeks before the start of the course and the candidate is advised to study this thoroughly. Assessment on the course is continuous in nature. On completion the candidate will receive an ILS certificate, which is valid for 1 year.
Content includes:
- Causes and prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest
- Initial assessment of the unwell patient & use of ABCDE patient assessment tool
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) agorithm
- Defibrillation training
- Airway management
- Cardiac arrest simulation training
The ILS course is suitable for nurses (community & hospital based), midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, dentists & dental nurses.
