About this study day

These sessions are available to registered nurses at any level, who wish to develop the knowledge and skills required to undertake cervical cytology.

The sessions will include an opportunity to share best practice and case studies as well as:

Day 1

  • Review of cervical screening programme
  • Aetiology of cervical cancer & HPV
  • Process of cervical screening from patient to lab and back again
  • Practical session-taking a history & completing the HMR101 form

Day 2

  • Anatomy & physiology of female reproductive system
  • Preparing the patient
  • Demonstration
  • Practical session

The day will consist of presentation, discussion, case studies and practical sessions.
Please note you would be required to attend both days and agree to undertake supervision in practice and an audit of practice in order to demonstrate achievement of the requirements of the NHSCSP. This will include visits to the cytology laboratory and to a colposcopy clinic.
