About this study day

This study day is open to any nurse working in an environment that cares for patients following traumatic injury. Attendees may work in the ED or on a trauma ward. The aim of the day is for attendees to improve their knowledge and skills in caring for patients following traumatic injury to the heart and/or with associated shock.

The sessions will consist of presentation, discussion, case studies and practical sessions, and will cover:

  • Basic cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Basic ECG interpretation
  • Causes and medical/nursing management of cardiac contusions and tamponade
  • Shock – types, causes and medical/nursing management
  • Updates on current evidence based guidance for the diagnosis and management of these conditions
  • An opportunity to share best practice and case studies
