About this study day

This study day is aimed at professionals (particularly from the community) who wish to embark on cannulation training, providing the theoretical component that underpins clinical practice. Participants will have the opportunity to practice in a safe environment, though this does not replace practice in the clinical area.

Please note following the study day attendance participants will require supervision and assessment in practice.

It is also suitable for staff wishing to refresh their knowledge.

The programme will cover:

  • Professional roles and responsibilities
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Local and systematic complications (including extravasation)
  • Use of equipment and application of aseptic non -touch technique.
  • Choosing the correct device for drug administration
  • Risk management/health and safety
  • Information and education of patients
  • The procedure of cannulation
  • Preparing to practice
