50 per cent of the course is spent at the University and the other 50 per cent of the course is spent on practice placement at one of our local NHS Trusts or Independent Care partners. The Faculty of Society & Health prides itself on the close links established with the clinical areas in its surrounding NHS Trusts, both hospital and community-based. Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

We work with Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to provide placements for Children’s nursing only. Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a major provider of community and hospital services in South Central England, providing care to over half a million patients from Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties every year.

They are responsible for the majority of NHS care in the county, from community health services provided in people’s homes or from one of their many local bases, to acute hospital services at Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and Amersham.

Their ambition is to provide comprehensive networks of care aimed at giving patients the right treatment and support, in the right place, at the right time. Over 6,000 highly trained doctors, nurses, midwives, health visitors, therapists, healthcare scientists and other support staff make up their workforce, caring for the full spectrum of patients from newborn babies to elderly people needing help to maintain living independently at home.

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust

We work with Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) to provide placements for Mental Health nursing. Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest Trusts in London offering a wide range of health and social care services across 10 boroughs. The Trust has over 5,000 employees, providing more than 300 services from over 150 sites.

CNWL specialise in caring for people with mental health problems, addictions and learning disabilities, as well as providing community health services to residents in Hillingdon and Camden and primary care services in a number of prisons.

They aim to work in partnership with local people to improve their health and wellbeing. Together they look at ways of improving an individual’s quality of life, through high quality health care and personal support.

Ealing Hospital NHS Trust – Southall

We work with Ealing Hospital NHS Trust to provide placements for Children’s and Adult nursing. Ealing Hospital is a small but busy district general hospital providing acute services for patients in the West London area. The hospital provides a range of medical, surgical, maternity and child health services and serves an ethnically diverse community.

Ealing Hospital provides excellent training and development opportunities for all staff members. It also offers students weekly teaching sessions 1-2 hours a week on various topics.

Their main commissioner of services is the Ealing Primary Care Trust, accounting for around 95 per cent of patients.

Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

We work with Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide placements for Children’s and Adult nursing. Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a large and diverse population of more than 450,000 which includes Ascot, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Slough, south Buckinghamshire and Windsor.

On the whole, the general health of people in the area is better than the England average. Priorities for the region include; childhood obesity, cardiovascular disease, early detection of dementia and falls prevention, early diagnosis of cancers including prostate, skin and colorectal and prevention and early detection of long-term conditions, heart disease and stroke.

They were recently awarded with a CHKS (Comparative Health Knowledge System) Top 40 Hospitals award covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

The Trust has approximately 3,200 staff, and they provide acute services that include cardiology, maternity, stroke and emergency from two main sites in Wexham Park (Slough) and Heatherwood (Ascot).

Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust – Uxbridge

We work with Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust to provide placements for Children’s and Adult nursing. Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust provides health services from two sites in West London. The first, Hillingdon Hospital, is situated just south of Uxbridge town centre and in close proximity to Heathrow Airport. It is the only acute Hospital in the London borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide variety of services including a busy Accident and Emergency department, inpatients, day surgery, and outpatient clinics.

The Trust also provides services at the Mount Vernon Hospital, in co-operation with the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – Hammersmith, West London

We work with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to provide Children’s and Adult nursing. As the first UK based Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest Acute Trusts in England.

Through close collaboration with partner Higher Education Institutions (HEI), they provide each student nurse with appropriate practice learning opportunities; to ensure their success within an ever-changing and diverse healthcare system.

Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

We work with Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide placements for children’s nursing. Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a medium size hospital serving the people living in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

The hospital has approximately 500 inpatient beds and provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services, including A&E, for over 300,000 people every year. They continue to develop their facilities to meet the needs of a growing population.

The hospital provides services for all medical, surgical and child health emergency admissions.

In addition to providing general acute services Milton Keynes Hospital increasingly provides more specialist services, including cancer, cardiology and oral surgery and has the responsibility for treating premature babies born locally and in the surrounding areas. Some of the babies we treat are born as early as 24 weeks old (16 weeks early) and weighing as little as 500 grams.

Their vision is to be the healthcare provider of choice for the people of Milton Keynes. They aim to deliver the right treatment, in the right place at the right time.

North West London Hospitals NHS Trust – (Northwick Park Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital)

We work with North West London Hospitals NHS Trust to provide placements for adult nursing. The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust manages Northwick Park and St Mark’s hospitals in Harrow and Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal. They care for more than half a million people living across Brent and Harrow as well as patients from all over the country and internationally at St Mark’s Hospital, their specialist hospital for bowel diseases. This makes them one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the capital.

They employ more than 4,300 doctors, nurses, therapists, scientists and other health professionals as well as administrative and support staff, making them one of the largest employers locally.

They are also a major centre for undergraduate and postgraduate education – teaching many nurses, doctors and other health professionals each year.

Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is a partnership of two specialist hospitals which are known throughout the world for their expertise, standard of care and research success. As a specialist trust, they only provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease which means that their nurses and other healthcare staff are experts in their chosen field. The Trust performs some of the most complicated surgery, and offers some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world and treats patients from all over the UK and around the globe.

Student nurses have the opportunity to work with highly motivated and committed staff providing care of an outstanding quality to patients with complex, rare or advanced diseases.

The Trust is based across two sites; Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, west London, and Harefield Hospital near Uxbridge.

We work with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital to provide placements for Children’s and Adult nursing. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is the largest orthopaedic hospital in the UK and is regarded as a leader in the field of orthopaedics both in the UK and world-wide. Their aim is to be the specialist orthopaedic hospital of choice by providing outstanding patient care, research and education in the field of complex neuromusculoskeltal surgery and care. This may range from acute spinal injuries to orthopaedic medicine and specialist rehabilitation from chronic back sufferers. The hospital has a huge multidisciplinary team working together and offers unlimited learning opportunities for student nurses to develop their skills and knowledge. West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust – Isleworth, Middlesex

The West Middlesex University Hospital is a busy urban acute hospital located in Isleworth, West London. Working out of attractive, modern facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, it provides contemporary and popular services primarily to residents of the London Boroughs of Hounslow and Richmond upon Thames.

West London Mental Health NHS Trust provides a full range of local mental health services for children, adults and older people to the London Boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow.
