Guidelines and accreditation
In order that all students are fully prepared for professional life, the Government has laid down certain guidelines for all social work degrees. In following these guidelines, we aim to create social workers who truly understand the people who rely on them.
This means you’ll have the opportunity to work with all service user groups, whether children in need, older people, disabled people or others whose behaviour poses a problem for society.
Like all HE institutions offering the professional social work degree, we have to be accredited by the General Social Care Council (GSCC). They ensure that our teaching and facilities are not only of the highest quality, but fully up-to-date with the latest developments and guidelines for professional practice.
In line with this, it is now a requirement for all students to complete 200 hours of work-based learning during the course of the degree. Students need to be registered with the GSCC as a student social worker in order to complete the course and undertake the practice placements.
