This short 30 credit module is suitable for health care practitioners providing care for patients within a health care setting.

Overview

This module represents a short course for health care practitioners to enhance their skills of assessment and evaluation in the care of patients at risk of deterioration.

Content

Through negotiation with your mentor and lecturer you will identify and explore your learning needs. Taught sessions will provide related theory giving you the opportunity to apply this to your practice.

The module will include exploration of:

  • The assessment of patients at risk of deterioration.
  • The recognition and assessment leading to triggering of interventions required for patients who are at risk of deterioration or who are deteriorating.

What will I learn?

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  • Undertake a critical evaluation of the clinical data collected from a systematic assessment.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the underpinning altered physiology leading to deterioration.
  • Critically explore the use of scoring tools and trigger systems to initiate interventions.
  • Critically discuss effective interventions of the deteriorating patient within their clinical setting.
