Is this course suitable for me?
This course aims to enable teachers in professional practice to facilitate programmes of learning, contribute to their development and review and provide leadership to enable their maximum potential. It also aims to enable teachers in initial and post initial practice to critically analyse the effectiveness of the practice curriculum in preparing students for specialist and advanced professional practice programmes in both the community and acute setting. There will be a focus on the role of the practice teacher in leading developments in practice education within an inter-professional context. It will also focus on the integration of learning between academic and practice settings. Having successfully completed the course the students will have met all NMC requirements to be placed on the local register as a practice teacher
Overview
The programme will consist of two modules.
One module is classroom based and is shared with colleagues undertaking the Post graduate certificate in education
A work based learning module focuses on supporting students at specialist and advanced levels and taking responsibility for the implementation and development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies in the practice area. This work based module is undertaken by working with students in the practice area over the whole of the academic year. Support will be provided by workshops and practice visits in semester two.
The programme will address the following key themes:
• Induction to Buckinghamshire New University.
• The Curriculum cycle and its significance in learning and teaching.
• Teaching and Learning strategies.
• Accountability in professional assessment.
• The Inter-professional Context.
• Leading and managing developments in practice education.
• Evaluating the curriculum across academic and practice settings.
• The research process and evidence based practice in education and professional practice.
Students who complete the course will have the opportunity to take one further academic module and a portfolio to complete the Post graduate certificate In Practice Education.
