This short 30 credit module will be of interest to community health and mental health workers.
Overview
To develop your ability to undertake a systematic review of the literature and critically evaluate its relevance to an area of practice.
Content
The taught content of the literature review module will be limited to 3 sessions to include:
- Conducting a literature review
- Management of the literature retrieved
- Critical analysis of the quality of the literature
- Critical analysis of the literature review process
- Analysing the validity & reliability of the literature review.
- The process of supervision
- Utilisation of the Faculty ‘Literature Review Workbook’
What will I learn?
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of how areas for practice development are identified and addressed.
- Devise and critically evaluate strategies for the collection, analysis and synthesis of the literature relevant to an identified clinical issue.
- Demonstrate critical and innovative thinking in drawing conclusions from the analysis of the literature.
- Critically evaluate strategies used to promote evidence-based community nursing practice.
The 30 credits gained from this module can also be used towards a ‘Top Up’ Degree by enrolling on the BA (Hons) Practice Development (Award). In order to complete this degree you can automatically transfer these credits on enrolment within a two year period, otherwise application through the CATs Committee will apply.
Teaching and learning
You will undertake this module to provide you with the basis for the critical evaluation of the literature. You will be allocated a supervisor for the duration of the literature review. Supervision will be arranged individually as required, and collectively at intervals throughout the module. Self-directed study will be the main teaching and learning strategy for this module, and you will be provided with a Faculty ‘Literature Review Workbook’ to support you through the process of undertaking the review.
Entry requirements
Working in a practice area which will support the development of the project.
- 90 level 6 credits (or equivalent)
- Support of your manager
