Is this course suitable for me?
This module is suitable for qualified nurses who wish to consolidate learning, such as study days/sessions, building upon these and experience in practice through reflection.
Overview
The aim of this module is to consolidate learning in relation to your area of practice and to engage you in the process of developing practice through critical reflection. It will enable you to develop the reflective skills to enhance knowledge, understanding and practice through the evaluation and critical analysis of experiences.
In consultation with the module leader you will identify an area of practice which is of interest and has clinical relevance to you. You will analyse your practice in relation to recent learning events (e.g. attendance to study days; conferences or clinical experiences). Critically reflecting upon how this learning has enhanced and developed your practice.
You will apply theory to practice and identify areas for further development in relation to your personal development plan (PDP).
Content
This module is delivered through work based learning that commences with an induction and key note lectures on reflection. These sessions will then be supported through study guided by the module leader or designated members of academic staff. This module provides the opportunity for you to develop their critical reflection skills to develop and enhance clinical practice in relation to their PDP.
What will I learn?
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and evaluate their practice
- Demonstrate practice development through critical reflection
- Develop evidence based practice through the application theory to practice
The 15 credits gained from this module can also be used towards a ‘Top Up’ Degree by enrolling on the BSc (Hons) Health Care Practice (Award). In order to complete this degree you can automatically transfer these credits on enrolment within a two year period, otherwise application through the CATs Committee will apply.

Teaching and learning
This module is delivered through work based learning that commences with an induction and key note lectures on reflection. These lectures will focus upon: developing the reflective skills required to develop practice through reflection; Investigating models for reflection and applying them to practice. These sessions will then be supported through guided-study and encouraged to consider the implications of this knowledge in relation to your own areas of practice development. You will be guided under the supervision of the module leader or designated member of academic staff.
Entry requirements
- Evidence of study at Level 5 (minimum of 60 Level 5 credits)
- Relevant clinical experience (some clinical modules require a minimum level of experience, please see individual modules for detail)
