Is this course suitable for me?
This short 30 credit module is for qualified nurses who wish to enhance their understanding of leadership and management theories. It will further encourage you to utilize the theories and engage with the process of change in a positive and empowering way.
Overview
This module explores the context of care delivery in today’s health service. It will enable the student to critically evaluate leadership and management theories and to utilize the theories and engage with the process of change in a positive and empowering way. It will offer practical tools to inform efficient, effective service delivery.

- Interprofessional working: Teams, Tran cultural nursing, Patient participation.
- Management and leadership.
- Change management.
- Legislation Regulation and Policy.
- Health Policy.
- Health economies.
- Organisation culture.
- Quality- Evidence based practice- Tools to manage and evaluate care.
- Clinical Governance.
- Innovation and change: managing others, managing conflict resolutions.
What will I learn?
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the health care policy at macro and micro level as it impacts upon the effectiveness in delivering current health service.
- Critically analyse and evaluate own self-management skills in fulfilling their role as clinical managers for the delivery and improvement of care within an interdisciplinary and changing context health care.
- Critically analyse the use and effectiveness of differing leadership and management styles in the delivery of care, examine approaches to clinical leadership and problem solving in order to support innovation and initiate change.
- In relation to current government strategies critically discuss the implications upon quality assurance, and resource allocation for service delivery within the care sector
- Debate the effects of the strategies to involve the user and carer or significant others in the decision making process, within current clinical and legal frameworks
The 30 credits gained from this module can also be used towards a ‘Top Up’ Degree by enrolling on the BSc (Hons) Health Care Practice (Award). In order to complete this degree you can automatically transfer these credits on enrolment within a two year period, otherwise application through the CATs Committee will apply.

Entry requirements
Applicants should be a Registered Health Care Practitioner with 120 level 5 credits
