This module is suitable for all qualified health care professionals.
Overview
The aim of the module is to encourage students participating in continuing professional development activities to enhance quality of care and develop practice through reflecting on and analysing their experiences in order to produce a portfolio of evidence of learning and continuing professional development.
Content
This module will encourage you to participate in continuing professional development activities by advising and supporting you to identify and meet professional development needs. This will involve liaising with other disciplines for the purposes of identifying continuing education opportunities outside the profession, but which are relevant for nurses and creating opportunities within the professional development and education programs which enhance individual development.
What will I learn?
On successful completion of the course, you will be able to:
- Reflect on and analyse your experiences in order to produce a portfolio of evidence of learning and continuing professional development
- Analyse and utilise relevant literature to support your evidence of learning for continuing professional development
- In addition you must meet the learning outcomes for the relevant module of part/s of the programme
- Effective applications of theory into practice to tackle work based problems and an ability to measure the results
- Demonstrate the ability to locate relevant information and resources, using appropriate media
- Identify the ability to set and work towards realistic goals that are available within the constraints of individual’s personal and professional life
- Demonstrate familiarity with a variety of learning and assessment strategies in a range of setting
This module can also be used towards a ‘Top Up’ Degree by enrolling on the BSc (Hons) Health Care Practice. In order to complete this degree you can automatically transfer these credits on enrolment within a two year period, otherwise application through the CATs Committee will apply.
Knowledge and skills framework (KSF)
This module will address elements of the following KSF’s dimensions:
Communication; Personal and people development; Heath safety and security; Service improvement; Quality, Equality and diversity; Health & well being (1 – 8)
Teaching and learning
In this module you will engage in individual tutorials and independent study. Keynote sessions will be used to address and provide depth of insight into specific content.
Individual tutorials may be face to face, via email or telephone. Blackboard VLE will also be used to facilitate group discussion. You will be encouraged to consider the implications of the central issues for your own area of practice and to debate both current provision and future developments.
Entry requirements
Academic
- 120 credits at level 2 or equivalent for entry to level 3 courses
Professional
- Working in an area of practice that is relevant to the chosen module for at least 12 months
