This module is suitable for health care professionals who are involved in management and care for people in a critical care environment.
Overview
This module provides the opportunity for students to critically debate contemporary issues from practice from a national and local perspective. Students will explore the macro and micro policies influencing health and healthcare, whilst evaluating their impact upon contemporary nursing practice. Critical Care nursing will be considered from a global and political context.
Content
This module will explore;
- Current and emerging trends for assessment and treatments, including advances in technology
- The impact of macro and micro policies and agendas on the delivery of care
- Current context of care and evidence base in the critical care arena
- Political, ethical and economic influences: policies and frameworks
- Professional practice and development will be considered
Multi disciplinary working and its external impact will illustrate the development needs of the individual student and subsequently their input into resources, research, education, information, training and multi disciplinary working in critical care
What will I learn?
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate and appraise contemporary issues in critical care nursing from a broad range of perspectives
- Evaluate legal, ethical and accountability issues in critical care nursing
- Critically evaluate the ethos of the critical care environment and the role of the practitioner within this environmen
Teaching and learning
This module will consist of a variety of teaching and learning strategies relevant to the broad ranging and complex nature of the subject material. This will therefore include taught lectures, student-led seminars, group work, discussion and debate, web -based learning, use of audio visual aids. Students will be encouraged to share and reflect on practice and management decisions based on clinical situations. Networking and exploration of wider critical care forums will also be promoted.
Entry requirements
- Registered professional qualification (e.g. nursing)
- 60 level 6 credits (or equivalent)
- Minimum 6 months experience in a relevant practice area
