The MSc Advanced Practice offers an exciting opportunity to explore the leading edge of clinical practice. Developed in response to an increasing need for advanced professional practitioners who are able to influence, interpret, and implement government policy in their area of practice. The programme will produce practitioners capable of leading the expansion and innovation of patient centred service provision. The course is designed for a wide range of professionals including, nurses, physiotherapists, and doctors from a variety of settings, to enable them to follow a specific pathway relevant to their current area of practice.
The modules available place emphasis on leadership and advancing roles to develop innovative clinical practice from a contemporary perspective. This is to enable the student to innovatively lead, direct and enhance clinical practice, while expanding the evidence base for their own area of practice. The content will focus on the evidence for a range of assessment skills and therapeutic management strategies, in order for students to deliver appropriate interventions aimed at the management of patients. Students will also be able to synthesise contemporary initiatives in relation to current practice and service delivery to creatively provide a safe and effective service.
This programme is aimed at current practitioners and therefore designed to be flexible, modules can be undertaken one at a time or in combination and blended learning methods will be used. Modules are taught on a two year rolling programme with a Postgraduate Diploma awarded on successful completion of Year 2. Students will receive an MSc award on successful completion of the dissertation (normally in year 3). Entry to the MSc normally requires a relevant first degree and you should be working in a relevant practice setting.

- Management of long term conditions and rehabilitation – (15 credits) Optional
- End of Life and Symptom Management – (30 credits) Optional
- Assessment and intervention in respiratory care – (15 credits) Optional
- Independent and supplementary nurse prescribing (45 credits) Opitional
- Clinical judgement, diagnostic reasoning and pharmacology
The course is directly linked to practice, and promotes advanced practice initiatives and strategic management planning, for the enhancement of the patient experience. It is envisaged that this course will prepare students for higher managerial and specialist roles.
